ROV
Pipeline Investigations Pushing 10,000ft mark
British Columbia,
Canada January 25, 2007:
A milestone in tunnel inspection services
was set in January when Can-Dive Construction hired Michigan based ROV
services company SeaView Systems, Inc. to perform a 9000ft investigation of
a hydro electric intake tunnel in a mountainous region near the popular ski
destination, Whistler.
The intake tunnel required that the ROV be
operated through both long horizontal and vertical shafts with a minimum
diameter of 6 feet. The project
required a compact vehicle with both long distance pull capacity and the
ability to work at depths in excess of 250m.
SeaView Systems’ 1000 meter rated Seaeye Falcon DR
fitted with an in-house developed external power supply was demonstrated to
be fit for the task when it completed the full 9000ft investigation and
identified the points of concern within the tunnel to the owner.
Despite having a 600ft vertical shaft with
two hard 90 degree bends, the investigation almost doubled the previous
maximum penetration distance record for a Seaeye Falcon.
