In November 2016, field trials were conducted with the SeaView Systems SurfROVer at the Army Corps of Engineers’ Field Research Facility (FRF) near Duck, North Carolina. These trials were performed in freshwater and saltwater environments and in an estuary on Albemarle Sound (inland side of the Outer Banks).

The main purpose of these trials was to demonstrate the performance of SurfROVer as a tow engine for White River Technologies’ EM sensors. The sensor array was towed with a sled which kept the EM sensor at an exact distance from the on-board electronics. Precise GPS information for both SurfROVer and the towed EM sensor array was a key data requirement.

The vehicle performed well in all three zones. The stability of the platform was found to be considerably good, even when towing the relatively long arm required for the EM sensors.
