SeaView Partners with Atlantic Lionshare Ltd. in Combatting Invasive Species
Since the discovery of lionfish in Florida in 1985, their calamitous impact on marine ecosystems has been observed from Rhode Island to Brazil. Lionfish are particularly threatening because of their broad diet of important fish and crustaceans, their ability to exponentially reproduce and their lack of natural predators.
Atlantic Lionshare Ltd., working closely with design partner SeaView Systems, has developed an ROV-based system for hunting lionfish. ReefSweeper efficiently captures these predators with no bycatch at depths that are unreachable by divers and turns the devastating predators into a commercially viable food source, while simultaneously enabling a more complete elimination of lionfish.
